Overview

DP Saigon Subs stands out as a vibrant Vietnamese eatery nestled in the heart of Malden, Massachusetts. Located conveniently at 310 Main St, this family-run spot offers an authentic taste of Saigon’s bustling street food culture right in the neighborhood. The space itself is modest and welcoming, reflecting the no-frills approach that’s often celebrated in genuine Vietnamese dining experiences.

The star of the menu undoubtedly is the Banh Mi—Vietnam’s iconic sandwich crafted with fresh, airy baguettes that achieve a balance between softness and crunch. Regular patrons praise the quality and layering of fillings, which include savory cold cuts, grilled pork, and BBQ chicken—all seasoned thoughtfully with aromatic sauces distinctive to DP Saigon Subs. The interplay of textures and flavors in these sandwiches delivers a satisfying bite that respects tradition while inviting customization.

Alongside Banh Mi, the Vietnamese sausage sandwiches offer another dimension of flavor, bringing a meaty, spiced interest to the table. The Spring Rolls, or Gỏi Cuốn, are noted for their freshness and simplicity—light, crisp, and perfect as a starter or side. For diners seeking a more varied meal, the salad bar adds a fresh, healthy complement, reinforcing the restaurant’s commitment to balance and authenticity.

The experience extends beyond food quality—interactions with the owner and staff leave a lasting impression. Their friendliness and willingness to share tips create a warm atmosphere that turns casual visits into memorable moments. Suggestions like arriving early for the Cha Gio (Vietnamese fried spring rolls) show a dedication to both customer satisfaction and food freshness.

Its location near everyday stops makes it ideal for lunch breaks or an impromptu dinner. While the space isn’t large or elaborately decorated, the focus remains on delivering hearty, delicious food at an approachable value.

For those who appreciate Vietnamese cuisine’s depth—whether through the complexity of cold cut combinations, the delicate balance of pickles and sauces, or the comforting nature of noodle soups like Bun Rieu—DP Saigon Subs offers more than just a meal. Visitors seeking a reliable, flavorful Vietnamese sandwich or a wholesome bowl of soup will find DP Saigon Subs a rewarding stop on their food journey.

I miss getting bahn mi’s so I decided to stop by for lunch. Very affordable place. I don’t know the last time I bought lunch for $6! I got their pork combo, but I will definitely come back and get something else!

Came on a whim after a visit to Walgreens. We hesitated to drop in coz it was 30 mins to closing and was worried the food wouldn't be fresh. We were wrong, food was fresh and good! Got the Combo and Sausage Bahn mi's. Also got the grilled chicken over rice per the owners recommendation. All were tasty. Portion-wise, the bahn mi's are on the lighter side. Portion makes sense though considering the price. I wish they had options to add pate or that viet mayo-butter, which I am not sure was in the bahn mi flavors we got. The chicken over rice was a huge portion. The box is deceiving as it filled up 2 plates when we got home. Too bad we didn't get to try the Cha Gio as they ran out. We had a nice chat with the owner who is friendly, he shared a tip to come before 2pm for Cha Gio. Prices are super affordable. We would definitely be back. Update 6/2023 We still frequent this place for Bahn Mi. So glad their prices and quality of food is still great. Not sure but the bread seems different. It used to have a crunchier skin now it has a chewy first bite. We usually get S1 Combination Pork when we want the usual and expected flavors. S9 BBQ Pork is great when you want a burst of asian flavor. It's got a sauce with aromatics that is quite unique to DP subs. They have the same BBQ pork over rice but it doesn't shine as well with rice, probably the combination of pickles and the sauce is missing in the rice plate? S2 BBQ Chicken Bahn Mi is good too but for this, we prefer the rice plate version. I had to eat soft food at one point and ventured to try other things on the menu. N1 Bun Rieu is good, nice portion. We got it to go and noticed the soup had icy bits in the container. Pre-cooked and frozen, which we don't mind but this would have been upsetting if eating at a place without a microwave to heat it back up. Zapped it up and great, some crab, good meatballs and soup. Also tried N3 Congee. I've never had congee at Vietnamese places so didn't know what to expect. It was okay for me. The broth seems to be made from a more native chicken? coz it had a gamey aroma. I'm not used to it but just added some more ginger and garlic to help me get over the aroma. Congee was comforting. It is more similar to Chicken Rice soup than say Cantonese congee as the rice bits are larger. Adding pics this time. Grabbing Bahn Mi here is our go to when being indecisive on what to eat.

DP Saigon make the freshest, most delicious, and heartiest Banh Mi sandwiches you will find. I first started eating Banh Mi sandwiches more than 25 years ago, almost daily in Boston's Chinatown for quite sometime. Since then, I've searched for "the best" in so many places, having traveled throughout much of the US for my work. I think I've found the best at Banh Mi sandwich so far is at DP's Saigon Subs in Malden, MA. The spring rolls are also perfect and stand up as one the my favorite.

Very cute local shop with amazing price for amazing banh mi. The owner was also very friendly, and attentively answered all of our questions. The banh mi is packed with fillings, and the bread is airy - and it gets even better toasted in the oven for a few minutes. Would definitely come back here again whenever I am in the area.

I really like the special combination sandwiches with the different cold cuts. This is run by a small family and I really love supporting small businesses. The owners are very friendly and kind people and if you are in the mood for some Vietnamese sandwiches, I definitely would recommend the Vietnamese cold cut sandwiches and the grilled pork! I also liked their to-go soups as well especially the Bun Rieu.

This is my new favorite place in Malden. So happy they opened here. The place is super clean. The food is authentic and affordable. I have been coming by 2x a week. I highly recommend this place. My favorite are the traditional Vietnamese sandwich, the curry chicken, and the grill chicken rice. Before we used to go to Dorchester for authentic and good Vietnamese food. A win for Malden.

The banh mi here is hands-down our favorite. It has great flavor and a better price than what you’d pay for the same size and ingredients in Chinatown or Dorchester. Their spicy beef noodle soup is also excellent, with a taste that’s impressively close to the authentic version. You really can’t beat the prices in this area, especially considering the high quality of the food. The owner is incredibly kind. One time, I didn’t have quite enough cash for an extra dessert, and instead of making me swipe my card, she just gave it to me at a discount instantly. Her avocado smoothy with the white boba tastes wonderful too. The spot itself is pretty small and not the best for dining in, so getting delivery or takeout is your best bet. Curbside parking can be tricky, but you can usually find a spot near Walgreens and walk over.

I love Bun Mi sandwiches. It's an incredibly creative way the Vietnamese people took an ordinary bland French baguette sandwich and completely made it something wonderful nothing short of a perfect sandwich. This not so hidden a jewel but makes one of the best this seasoned eater has had. I considered Malden,Ma. , a treasure trove for great Asian asian restaurants. This little spot of Vietnamese love is very high on the must try spots!!.
